NeuroMuscular Taping

The application of elastic tape in a specific way that decompresses the tissues. Wrinkles form which lift the skin and facilitate venous and lymphatic drainage, improve blood circulation and relieve pain.

Kinesiology tape has long been used in sporting applications for the prevention and rehabilitation of sporting injuries. Mostly seen being used by physios and sports trainers to support injured muscles and joints by applying tape with stretch creating compression. As more and more research papers are being published, taping is now also being recognised as an effective treatment for reducing pain, inflammation and swelling and has been shown to increase blood and lymphatic flow.

There are many different brands and types of kinesiology tape with varying degrees of stretch. The fibre used in their manufacture can range from 100% cotton to blends of cotton, polyester and elastic fibres.

Specialized application of elastic tape allows for decompression of the tissues to support the lymphatic system and allow for faster drainage of lymph fluid. This method of application has also been shown to reduce inflammation and pain and may assist healing.
